EAP services are available for all County employees and their families regardless if individuals are enrolled in the County’s Health Insurance plan. Confidential and free services are available for relationship problems, family conflicts, workplace issues, conflict resolution, depression and anxiety, alcohol and drug problems, compassion fatigue, marital difficulties, job performance concerns, critical incident stress management, stress management, etc. No problem is too small. You are not alone. Help is just a phone call away.

Marathon County's 2025 Employee Wellness Program is available to all employees regardless of whether you are enrolled in the county's health insurance program. By participating in the Wellness Program, you are eligible for some great incentives including a health insurance premium reduction for the following year, a paid "wellness day," or a 2026 gym membership reimbursement up to $500!  All you need to do is complete your Preventative Exam and 150 points of other preventative services. Complete additional activities for a total of 1,000 points and be entered to win prizes.

What is STS? 

Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS) is “the natural consequent behavior and emotions resulting from knowledge about a traumatizing event experienced by a significant other. It is the stress resulting from helping or wanting to help a traumatized or suffering person.”

• Indirect exposure to trauma through a firsthand account of a traumatic event. The vivid recounting of trauma by the survivor causes trauma reactions in the helping person.
• The stress resulting from helping or wanting to help a traumatized or suffering person.
• It comes from our perceptions of the person’s traumatic experience.
• Its symptoms can mimic those of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
• It is sometimes referred to as Compassion Fatigue or Vicarious Trauma.
